The Staircase

The staircase is the main circulatory path

that extends through the entire height of this building.

It's a warm and inviting space that allows visitors to slowly circulate up while

directly interacting with it by activating pools of light by walking up. This creates a sense of connection and gives a reason to use the stairs.

To support the whole idea of slow and peaceful movement, the stair has resting platforms which becomes a place that allows people to pause, stop and prospect.

Staircases are often the last choice of circulation for people in civic buildings. Why go through the extra effort when theres a perfectly functional escalator or lift right next to it?

It's about the simple choices that people can make to add a little more movement in their day. The staircase intrigues and compels people to make the choice to walk through the interactive nature that it has.

The staircase invites people to PLAY with it;  What if i press the sensors with my hands? What if i skip a step? What if i jump on the sensors? (although not advised - walk sensibly :D ). The staircase then becomes less of a chore and more of an experience itself.

Stair Handrail Light Detail

The touch sensitive light brightens up  dependant on how many or long the sensor is touched for. This invites the users to encourage more people to touch the handrail - travel up the stairs - to see how bright the handrail can get.

The pressure from stepping on the sensors cause the bottom of the stair to light up. The experience extends from the person stepping to the visitors under the stairs who see the words light up under the stair, intriguing them to create pools of light themselves.
