HOW WILL THIS BE ACHIEVED?

Considering the salutogenisis theory as well as all the points to creating healthy cities, my approach and design strategy will stem from three key pillars:

ACTIVE:    encourage movement + circulation through space
PHYSICAL HEALTH

PHYSICAL HEALTH

VIEW- PHILIA:

Views attract people even if comfort is compromised

LIZARDING INTERIOR:

People dwelled in spaces for longer if there were soft materials in the space. i.e. soft furnishings

ROOSTING:

Perched and protected areas were popular. Stationary people tended travel to and favoured elevated areas that overlooked the space.

LIZARDING EXTERIOR:

People dwelled in spaces for longer if there was direct sunlight and soft materials like timber to lounge on.

Having an intricate circulation that leads to a comfortable (through soft furnishing) spot with different views can increase movement + circulation

Having an elevated circulation

path that has a range of seating heights as well as access to sunlight. This path could extend from the exterior to the interior to pull people into the space.

Having spaces dedicated to being active to encourage movement within self as well as movement in the space.

These activities won't be typical 'gymming' activities, but activities that are less common and more creative.

Having plenty areas for overlooking and observation for those who have physical disabilities and cannot be active within these spaces. Also incorporating other ways of circulating through the space without physically moving.

Incorporate activities such as:

Aerial Silks, Rock Climbing, Abseiling, Dancing, Sound to movement rooms.

Movement through the exhibition space in the conveyor and movement in the dining experience at the rooftop restaurant.

EDUCATE:     range of typologies to foster learning + creativity
MENTAL HEALTH

Learn about food nutrition

+ cooking + health

Learn from being

creative yourself

Learn through appreciating

others creations

Learn through observation

of others being creative

MENTAL HEALTH

A space dedicated to learning

about making healthier food choices to reduce the temptation of consuming fast food out of convenience.

A space that allows the

practice of cooking and learning how to make healthier meals

A space to share these learnings through a community restaurant

Spaces that offer a range of creative activities like:

traditional arts: painting, sculpture making, digital arts

movement based art: dancing and aerial silks performances

creativity through food: cooking and sharing your creations with the community.

Spaces that allow the communities art to be showcased:

Digital exhibition space that showcases others artworks.

Traditional exhibition spaces

A community restaurant to showcase the communities food creations

Having spaces of prospect that allow individuals who are not actively being creative to observe others that are.

Having multiple viewpoints through the visual permeability of the space as a whole.

REST:     places of rest + using COLOUR to enforce mood of typologies
EMOTIONAL HEALTH

Resting Zones_Having dedicated spaces of refuge within active spaces to create a safe zone for individuals who need a break or privacy. These spaces are designed with View-Philia  and Lizarding concept in mind to encourage people to travel up and rest when needed.

EMOTIONAL HEALTH

Colour Theory_Colour is one of the most significant ways an atmosphere within a space can be defined. Not only do we see this in architecture but we also see colour tactics used in marketing, poetry and branding as well. Through research, each space will be designed with a singular colour which will reinforce the mood of the space. The colour can be applied to different textures within the space to further the atmosphere and intent.
